Sad Discovery

On a woodland stroll found the carapace of a sub-adult eastern that didn't make it through the winter here in central VA. There was no plastron nearby that we could find, or other bones or skull: perhaps another creature had made a meal out of it.

I have found shells in my travels through woods as well. One was at the base of a cliff. The poor turtle must have tumbled over the edge and died All the bones were there, event the tiny toes!

The worse is to see dead turtles on the road...hit by cars!
