Mud turtle Qustion

cagrlalwys Feb 07, 2003 04:35 PM

Hi. My friend is wanting to get a turtle and I have been looking on lots of web sites and I am finding that muds and maps stay small. She wants a small turtle and I was thinking of getting her the eastern mud. If you can provide me with good websites that would be great! Also are big shallow opaque rubbermaids good to house these in? They come in many different shapes and sizes (biggest one I have seen is 50 gallon) and they are only 15 bucks for the biggest one. I told her she should do that instead because it is cheaper and easier to take care of because they are shallow but not too shallow. Any info would be greatly needed. Thanks and great forum

Mud turtles are one of the better choices for a first turtle - providing you remember that they tend to be a bit aggressive

Fotr a care sheet for Muds this link will take you directly to the care sheet hosted by the World Chelonian Trust.

Genus: Kinosternon - Mud Turtles

Or you can click on the link below, go to the "Care Sheet" section and wander the other care sheets to find a turtle suited to your situation.

Hi. Thanks for the info. I printed the care sheet off so I will give it to my friend when I see her hopefully tomorrow. If she does decide to get one it will probably be at the end of the month because there is a reptile expo on the 22 and 23 of Feb. Thanks
