Why is there never anything interesting for sale in the Classifieds? MORE

harikrishna May 17, 2005 02:34 PM

Now I know what you may say, "There is plenty for sale!", but I just don't see any eye catchers. I usually have about $500 to $1000 every month or so to possibly spend on a boa. So I go looking on the classified and this is what I see in the Boa section:

1) baby normals
2) baby hypos
3) baby albinos
4) some $10K morph BABY!

Notice the pattern... BABIES! Now I know everyone is having babies this time of year, but does no one have adults for sale? It seems everyone holds back all the good stuff or it gets sucked into some blackhole. On top of that there are no adult morphs in the $500-$1000 range beside hypos. It does not have to even be a morph; even if there was a phenominal normal I might grab it. ARRRGH!!! Sorry I just had to vent. I surf the classifieds 24/7 so I get tired of seeing the same thing. Maybe I just need to save up the $5K-$10K and make someone part with an adult something? I just have trouble spending the price of a car on one snake.

I have two complaints about the classifieds...
people/businesses post the same three ads every day to keep their ads on top which makes the classifieds looooooooooong esp. if you don't keep up with it every day or so.
Whenever I see something I really want I never have the funds!

I just try not to look anymore.

If you have $1000 to spend....u can get many great animals....just check out some sites other than kingsnake....just a thought.

I to try not to look...I seem to spend more than I should.

Part of the reason you do not see many adults is simple math. If I have an adult albino female that is a good breeder, why would I sell her. She is worth atleast $30,000 per year in babies. When you do see adults for sale it is my opinion that they are for sale because someone could not get them to breed. I am very skeptical about buying adults for that reason. Even a good producing normal female is worth good money if you have a motley or even a hypo male. Why do you want an adult??

I guess sometimes I underestimate the market for boas. You would think with the large number of say for instance Albinos produced in the past fews years that there would be SOME 2 year-olds for sale somewhere. I want adults so that I can breed, but I'm not really in it for the money per say. Of course I would sell most of the offspring because I don't have 20 cages, but I'm more of a mad scientist who wants to see what I can create. I'm willing to spend good money on a hobby I like, but $10k a snake stops being a hobby and starts being a business. I think it's because boas are a business and not a hobby to some people that we have this huge gap between $100 normals and $10K morphs. There is not much in between for the guy who just wants to spend $500-$1000... me

This year we have already seen a few new morphs produced. As new morphs are produced and as the ones that we already have are more commonly produced the prices will drop. I'm sure it wont be long before there will be a few more morphs in the &500 to $1000 range. Why not get yourself a couple hypos or an albino and raise them up to breed. I think you will feel much more satisfaction and pride when you see the babies you raised up produce for you.

An arabesque from Pete, or a hypo het snow from Frank Martin, or some leopards from Dragonherp, there are quite a few true jungles out right now, or wait a couple more months and get a snow, a motley, a sunglow, and albino arabesque, a salmon jungle or if you are into "crosses", a sunset. There are ALOT out there if you look hard enough and have the patience to get what you want. Good luck and please let us know what you get and post some photos!

They are usually snatched up or kept by whoever produce them....Once in a while you get some really good stuff

HariKrishna May 18, 2005 10:49 AM

The classifeds is where everyone unloads their babies and unwanteds. I'm part of other communities (cars, computers, etc) where we use the classified to buy, sell, and trade our "good stuff" with eachother not just the stuff we don't want.

You just need to have a good eye, I've seen amazing animals pop up in the morning, come home from work, and they are sold/gone... You just have to keep a watchfull eye on the listings.. And if you're serious about buying something, do some research on a particular animal, and post a wanted ad.. They work VERY well, I recently posted a wanted ad for an adult female hypo, I had 5+ responses.. It's also good, because people who might not have thought about selling their animals, become motivated to sell.. That means you're getting a decent animal, that is only expendable, not unwanted... I know it costs 20bux for a classified account, but if you're spending 1k+ on a specific animal, a public advertisement is the way to go.. Hope this helps.
