Russ, I see a baby pic behind your pic with he big guy. Does the baby go near the Tegu? and how does your tegu act if so. I am curious about small children if its a huge concern. if i ever have any kids i dont want to have to give up the tegu. But i would worry they wouldnt understand and think the baby or small children is food. Thanks

thats my son aidan . he is 2 1/2 now.i dont let them near the lizards out side the cage. I do let my oldest son touch the tail. also i wash my hands so mutch that they dry out. so you just have to play smart.i do not recomend free roaming with small children. good common sence is all you need. my son loves the tegus .russ

Children and herps don't mix ... I think it's good to introduce them and let them look .. but no touching ..

I keep mainly fish and I have an 11 month old boy and got rid of the common snappers, the electric eel, electric cat, moved the piranhas to higher levels in the fish house ... whilst children and the hobby are not mutually exclusive you just have to use your head ...

My little one is now fascinated by the pets -- particularly the bloody great tegus that look like great fun, currently they are housed 5 ft off the ground but I am building a new enclosure which will be at ground level - it will have ruddy great locks on the doors to ensure that there is no child access. - the snakes already have lockable lids. A bite from my male tegu (and its only 42" would easily remove one of the little boys fingers!!

And russ I know what you mean about washing hands !! -- split knuckles dry skin -- I think i go through more hand cream than the missus
