Finally got a Blue Spiny

buddy1900 May 17, 2005 04:58 PM

I know, I know. They're common. But it took me years to find this little fella. I could have ordered him through the mail at any time but I've had some D.O.A.'s so I almost completely refuse to use the mail now. So I waited and waited. None at the local lizard shows, none at the pet stores. Ended up finding him at PetSmart. Can you believe that? He's very healthy and captive bred but he is a baby. I would have liked an adult. I'll just have to wait for him to grow. I named him Kevin after that sea cucumber in that one episode of SpongeBob. Yea, I've got kids. lol.

hes gorgeous Mike, very very pretty! You made a wise choice.

I like all the spineys and swifts. I raise Emeralds, but love these guys as well as desert spinys.

I wish ya the best with your new baby, Kevin .

Hey nice to see you again How are the redheads?

Yes, I miss my Emerald very much. He just died of old age. He had a great life though. But I wanted another spiny. Oh, I meant to say in the first post that the Blue Spinys definately do have the same personality as the Emeralds. Just 5 times bigger and a longer life span.

As for the Red heads, oh, I wasn't gonna say anything unless someone asked me directly. I feel terrible. We have huge temperature swings here in Florida in the winter. We're literally switching from heat to air conditioning in the same day. But if the house's thermostat is set for cool, and the temp that night hits 30º, the heat will not come on. We had gone out of town during warm weather and returned after a drastic cold snap. All my other lizards were fine but those red heads are extremely suceptable to the cold. I only have Bubberina left. That's the one that took the colorful photo. So yea, my fault but I don't know what I could have done. Had to have my wife in the hospital and couldn't get back to my house in time. I just feel terrible. Never lost one to the cold before.

Sorry ya lost them. But yes, they are more fragile than alot of other lizards. They are also very stressy!

I hope your wife is okay also

Well good luck with your new lil guy he sure is pretty!

Oh, I should explain. My wife is just going through ongoing (never ending) complications from a miscarriage she had way back in December. She's ok, just alot of procedures. Not life threatening.

And yea, the little Blue Spiny is really turning in to my little buddy. Can't be happier. Just wish he'd grow faster. hehe
