When making your hydei recipe do you boil the liquids and 1/4 cup bakers yeast together then put one cup of that in a jar than add 1 1/2 potatoe fakes to that. And is the 1/4 cup bakers or brewers yeast. Thanks for any help.

I actually boil ALL the contents (including the 2 cups potato flakes), but just for a couple of minutes, frequently stirring. Then I pour the medium into the jar, let it cool. Then sprinkle a tiny amount of baker's yeast over the surface of the medium. Some people prefer brewer's yeast over baker's and I've tried both, but I always receive better results when I use the baker's.

Actually... Brewers Yeast goes *IN* the media... Bakers Yeast is sprinkled (just a bit) on top.

I don't use any BREWER's yeast. After much experimentation, I've found that I yield just as many flies without using brewer's yeast as compared to when I do use it.
