Fawn went to the vet again today

the4thmonkey May 17, 2005 07:01 PM

and Dr Alvarez thought she was better, too. She got one more steroid shot, half the dose of the first 2. She still weighs 24 grams, but that is better than losing weight. If she "rebounds" and starts the swelling of her tongue and throat again, we are going to try "pediapred", a liquid steroid preparation made for babies and small children. It has fewer bad side effects than injections and I will be able to give it to her at home. Fawn is having yet another bad shed, but it is coming off easier than the last 2 times.
Otis went to the vet today too, just for the ride. He got a lot of attention in the waiting room, the other clients all wanted to hold or touch him. And the vet said he certainly looked like a strapping heathly boy. He weighed in at 48 grams. And I asked the vet why Saige has not become gravid this year. She said that lizards will go through a kind of menopause and stop ovulating if they live to be old enough. I am guessing that is what's happening with Saige.

well, hopefully she will stay healthy now. i have never had a collared go through a bad shed but my uro helga that i rescued still peels unevenly (well more unevenly than uros do) after a year so maybe fawn just needs a little time. just keep an eye on her toes and the tip of her tail glad to hear she is going better

Well sounds as if you and Fawn have had a hectic time. I'm sure glad shes doing better. Hope the medicine worked and she will not need anything else

Saige sounds like my Hopi, I think my girl is older now, I have had her for 5 years and think she was atleast 2 when I got her. Shes fine and eats, but sleeps more these days, and is slower.

I have kept her away from Zuni, and with some who I feel will not attemp to mate/bother her. She had 4 clutches last season, think she just had enough! Time to just let her RELAX and enjoy!

Good work getting Fawn all fixed up and feelin better!
