Worried in Westerly, Please Help!!!

rgrayson May 17, 2005 07:49 PM

Earlier today, my 3-year-old breading female, Aphrodite, refused to eat anything. I did not think this was odd because I thought that she was carrying eggs. Usually, she doesn’t eat when she’s pregnant. Many hours later, I smelled this awful smell emitting from her cage. I looked to see partially digested fruit, mealworms, and wax worms in her cage (I assumed that she threw-up, but I have never heard of anything like that before) as well as a bowel movement. Besides the fact that it was mostly water and smelled disgusting, the bowel movement was not unusual looking. I gave her a warm bath to try to re-hydrate her and moved her to a different cage for the night. Although I plan to get a vet to look at her at once, I was wondering if anyone could give me any ideas about could be wrong with her.

I am the actual owner of aphrodite....i asked my girlfriend to post the message while i was at work. for the record, aphrodite is a breeder not a breader.
seriously though, i haven't had any troubles with her over the last couple of years. could the vomiting be from the superworms or wax worms....i haven't given her them in at least 10 months...could the change in diet (which is usually crickets and salad) ????
she is sleeping now in an isolated cage (at 12:30am) when the lights come on in the mourning, I'll check her to see if she's "normal"

Has anyone had an experience like this before? any words of advise? ....i guess if i get no responce and she looks bad....it's vet time.

It would probably be best to see a vet.It could be that the change in diet simply upset her stomach or the superworms may have caused an impaction, could also be a bacterial infection in her intestines. How is she doing now?

today she seems perfectly normal. she looks dehydrated.....so i've been giving her water. she is eating crickets and her greens.

I thought that acidophiliz would help out....but i can't seem to find any pet stores in the area that carry it.....by the way, for future reference....THERE ARE NO GOOD REPTILE STORES IN RHODE ISLAND. I've called every store in a 50 mile radius of westerly (which is south RI) and no one even knows what acidophiliz is!!!! so if you want to open a pet store in southern RI...go for it....you'll have NO competition.

so i guess i'll buy a bottle off the internet.

I would bring the fecal to the vet to be looked at. Or if you already threw it away i would bring in her next one. Runny foul smelling partially undigested stools can often be caused by parasites

Bearded dragons can vomit if they eat too much at once, or don't have enough time to digest their food before lights out. Being gravid may have caused her to vomit if she ate to m uch and didn't have enough room her in her stomach due to eggs taking up all the space etc. The smelly runny poo is often a sign of parasites. If her next poo is fine, and she is keeping food down fine, there shouldn't be anything to worry about. If the poo is very runny or very smelly a fecal by a vet would be a good ideal.

Deffinitely keep her well hydrated and stress free for the next couple days.

As for acidophiliz, I don't think too many petstores carry it, you may have to get it from your vet or online. Pediolite is another pro-biotic you can use, which is typically found in regular pharmacies, as it is used with children to help them.

I have seen Bene-bac in stores, is this a priobiotic? Or is it just a rip-off?
