wierd thing with male teg

lophius May 18, 2005 05:11 AM

While I had my tegs in the bath the other day I noticed that the males hemipenes were distended (which sometimes happens when he deaficates)... when I picked him up to remove him he secreted two 'packets' in the bath about 3 inch long and white / opaque - I can only assume that these were sperm sacs ?

Has anyone else seen this at all?

In addition my female with whom he is housed has a bloody great bite mark on her back just above her back legs - it happened about a two weeks ago and has healed up fine - but she now has a scar - hopefully this will subside as she conitnues to grow ...

Am I to assume that they may have bred? Is it common for males to bite females when trying to breed?

The male is about 42" and the female about 36" (but a small 36", its been a while since I measured them. The male is about 2 1/2 yeasr old, the female is a bit younger - possibly only 2 years.

I have not noticed any changes in behaviour but what should I be looking for if indeed they have bred ? Is breeding often unsuccessful - what will happen if the female is unreceptive to the male ?

I am building a new enclosure at the weekend - should I keep them together?

Sorry for the long post

carl

It is very common that the male bite the female. That's why I always seperate my males a few weeks into the breeding season.
