Very late egg!

I thought I would share this experience with you. On April 24 I had a female lay 4 good eggs and 3 slugs. When I thought she was all done I removed her and upon inspection I discovered a very hard object still inside her. It was very hard and did not feel like an egg. I know what they feel like. This was more like a slug. I put her back and 24 hours later she still had not laid whatever was in her. After setting up the good eggs in the incubator I placed her in a clean compartment and she started feeding 2 days later. She never missed a meal which is unusal for her. Last year she didn't eat until her eggs hatched. Her eggs where being incubated! Go figure!

I checked on the mass inside her regularly and it had not and would not move. I kept feeding her as usual and on May 17th she shed, pooped and finally passed the mystery object. It looks to be an egg, not a slug, but it is in deed rock hard. I've never seen this before so I thought I would share.

I had this happen to me last season as well....female laid, begain eating immediately, they pooped and passed a rock hard off white mass that appeared to be an egg....guess we are both lucky that it didn't become bound or anything.

Perhaps the egg ruptured sometime during gravidity? I've know eggs to get hung up in colubrids for a really long time and then come out.

Thanks for sharing Mark... Glad to see she was strong enough to deal with it!

Good Luck!

I did that once last year? I think it was........people tell me they never had that or never had one stick........anyways.,,I have a habit of doing alot of things noone else ever does....

as you see it had shrunken down in size..some of the moiture has been resorbed back from the egg by the mother.....corns usually keep filling the eggs and making them larger and larger till they get stuck for good or the female dies......yes they at times can be taken out fat and at times after looong periods will actually shrink too

but the ball shrunk hers like yours did.........

kewl........

I would bet it was infertile anyways.....don't sweat it.....
