Pics from 5-12-05-(3 parvirubra day pics)

jeph May 18, 2005 11:43 AM

5-12-05 was a fun day.Although,it wasnt untill 5pm that I saw the first snake of the day-(this rubber boa pictured here,it was a male),and I'd been hiking from 1pm,but did take an hour from 3-4 for lunch. The neat thing about this guy was it was in the same rock outcropping I found my first rubber at back in '95,I remember seeing excited to see that, went on to find 1 more that day too.

Heres the first zonata of that day.It was found at the same outcropping as that rubber boa,30 minutes later,so around 5:30pm.I have found zonatas and rubbers on the same day before, but not under the same rock, those pics will come later,

Heres a top view, check his pattern a bit better.A pretty average Parvirubra-(I have found 2 perfect, and I mean perfect no crossovers at all at this same spot, that was in '95 and '97).Enjoy the pics,

Well after seeing the rubber boa and parv. I was ready to get back to the car-(as we were a good hours hike back to it) but we took a different way going out then we did comming in,which was great cause I found a great spot, and within minutes there was the 2nd Z of the day. This one was hard to get pics of.It just wouldnt sit still.Pretty nice pattern too, look at the 21st white band and you can see she has a little patch of red scales,I'll post a closer shot of it too.

I've seen a few zonatas from the San Bernardino Mtns with this.I saw a big adult male in '95 that had it on 3 or 4 white bands-(not too far from this area either, actually was from where the rubber boa and first Z were found the other day, posted above).

My friend lifted this rock-(he only lifted 5 rocks if that through out the day,hes not a herper at all,but likes to go hiking). He lifted as I watched and I couldnt believe it.I've heard of it before, but I've never seen it yet,an adult zonata and 2 rubber boas under the same rock.By the time I got my camera out-(took a second to take it in for myself first) the 2nd rubber boa started to burrow into the ground, and I could tell the Z was about to take its chance at getting back to cover,so I got the pic with only the Z and 1 rubber. But this was the greatest rock lift I've seen, lol. This zonata did have quite a few crossovers, but it was so bright orange-(pics do no justice for this one), enjoy..
