Need new cage what do you think?

svt-sinister May 18, 2005 11:58 AM

I need to buy a new cage for my Eastern King snake. He is about 2 1/2 ft long now. I like the aquariaums cause there all clear and you can see the snake from any angel of the room. Now my question is, Does anyone sell cages like this that will have a better top than an aquarium? I hate having to take 6-8 different clips off all the time when i wanna take out my snake. Im thinking of a 75 gallon. Thanks

For a tank that big, one idea is to make your own wood top that mounts around and on top of the aquarium rim and has a big hinged door with latches for access. You could cut out an area for screen too.

I used to make such lids for a few large tanks I had that were temporary housing for a boa and a ball python. They couldn't escape.

If you use thick enough plywood, the weight of the top will keep the cage escape-proof (for a kingsnake anyway, maybe not for a retic )

You can buy aquariums that have built in sliding screen tops.
Also, vision cages was coming out with there Visionarium, which is an aquarium with a sliding glass front
You may want to try GlassCages.com, and see wht they have, or can make for you. I know they have sliding glass front aquariums as well
