Latest update on my rescue!

Melisondra May 18, 2005 01:54 PM

Finally done with classes and home for the summer! (Now I just have to wait on the grades to be calculated *gulp*)
The rescue is doing really really well! After increasing the calcium dusting the last couple of weeks, she is so much stronger.
It's amazing to see the change, she's not choking when she drinks now, (stronger throat muscles im guessing?) and you can hear her jaws clack when they come together. I tested her casque too, which she did NOT approve of, and it was pretty strong as well.
I threw a branchy stick in there at the begining of the week, and she is climbing all over her cage now.
She still cant climb fast though, and probably never will. She climbs with the 3 legs, then flails wildly with the weird one until she manages to hit the branch and grab on. She can grip with the busted leg, But hasnt perfected moving it.
Apparently we're naming her Alis (Alice) Short for Borealis (spelling?) since we already had Aurora

But anyway thats about it. I will get a couple pics later if I can to update. She is shedding almost every week to two weeks and growing like a weed!

I have been wondering so am quite happy to hear the news - you and your folks should be quite proud of the work you have done! I think the name and the reason behind it is terrific - a tribute to Aurora

Can't wait for pics! Oh, and I am sure your grades will be just fine

great name! did you know that is actually a species of Clawed Frog? Xenopus borealis is the clawed frog native to Kenya, also known as the Kenyan Clawed Frog. they are unheard of in the pet trade and are not available in petstores like the African Clawed frog, but you can get them from suppliers. i have pics of Xenopus borealis on this site here, its still waaaaay under constuction but pics are up.
