Did I hurt the salamander?

reptilesrock May 18, 2005 09:23 PM

Hi, I ws looking around for Eastern Red Backed Salamanders in the woods close to my home, I found one when I uncovered a rotten log. I picked him up and put him on a fallen tree branch and took some pictures. After I was trying to get him into my hand and he managed to wedge himself into a crevice in the branch, I wanted to put him back where I found him because I figured that was best to put him back where his home was. As I pulled back some of the bark where he was, the bark came off and I think he fell onto the ground with it. I looked for him on the ground and didn't find him and I didn't see him in the branch anymore, Could the fall or anything have injured him and does it matter that he wasn't put back directly where I found him.

He should be okay. He probably hit the ground and high-tailed it for cover. They can be pretty speedy when they don't like you messing with them.
