Stupid Me! I lost my RES somewhere in the house

cade9302 May 18, 2005 11:53 PM

I have lost my RES, Betty in the house. She is still a baby, around 3 months old. She's been missing for over 12 hours. I let her get some exercise this morning in the dining room and when I went to put her back in her tank she was gone. I have searched everywhere. I have looked under and moved everything I can possibly think of. I have even got on the ground and tried to think if I was a turtle where would I go. It's like she left out the front door, not to be heard from again. My biggest concern is that she might be stuck somewhere and I was wondering if anyone knows about how long do think Betty can remain missing without water? My other RES, DJ is pretty depressed without her buddy.

I will let you all know if I find my little Betty. Hopefully she'll be ok.

Thanks,
Genea

Keep looking. Check every place you can possibly think of and then some you wouldn't think she could get to at all. Have you checked in the kitchen under appliances? In closets, shoes, etc? In the furniture? Good luck!

RES have an uncanny ability to find water. I would suggest putting out water sources around the house, then check them regularly. They can also smell food pretty well, especially dead stuff.

Almost a week after she disappeared I found her. She is fine, I couldn't believe it. Lastnight, she was in my son's room just sitting out in the open. Our family was for sure that Betty was taken out of the house by the cat thru the cat door. It's not something the cat would do but we were stumped after searching and searching everywhere in the house. Thanks for your tips. The next time my turtles get a chance to run around the house I will have my eyes on them the whole time.
