Nile Monitor Care

DBLOCK May 19, 2005 10:08 AM

After owninng 3 Savannahs I think I am ready to step into the world of Niles. I was looking to purchase a CB baby from M.S. Herps out of Miami, if anyone can provide me with a care sheet for Niles it would be greatly appreciated, I can seem to only find care sheets for Monitors in general. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated, and building a custom cage for my new herp will be no problem, thanks for your input.

why a nile? why not a salvator? the care is very similar and salvators tend to be much more docile...

They can be setup like your savs just alot larger scale.
The basic care is all the same.

Also do not fall for the c/b trick most liekly your little one will be an import.

You never mentioned whether wanting a tame or handlable beast. If your looking for a lap lizard its not a good choice.

I know that 90% of Savannahs in the pet trade today are imported, I was unsure if that ratio was the same for niles. But they are said c/b and I know about their aggressive behavior. If I wanted another tame monitor I would stick to my savannahs or get a salvitor, btw what are the dimensions of the cage in your pic?

the same is true for niles as it is for savs. More then likely if it is south florida then it is an imported baby, or so called farm hatched.

That cage is 8L x 4D x 3H and that nile could use a larger cage.

Thanks, I think you have just kept me to Savannahs.
