How long after cutting eggs should it take for the babies to come out ?

RyanT May 19, 2005 10:20 AM

I know this is my own fault for being impatient but I cut my eggs 2 days ago. Today is day 55 for them. They haven't come out of the eggs yet. They're all alive, just sitting in the eggs. Of course I want them to absorb all their yolk and don't want to rush them but I'm just worried about them drowning. Should they start to come out after the egg has been breached or will they take as long as they want to stay in for as long as they would have if I had let them pip themselves? Just need some opinions. I've heard they should emerge after a day or so, it's already been 2 and they seem quite comfortable in there. Thanks alot.

They will not come out until they are ready. My opinion is that they will not start coming out for three to fifteen days, depending on incubation temperature.

Herpers need glacial patience. :/

I would not worry about them drowning with open eggs. It depends. When they naturally pip, it normally takes 24 hours or so to leave the egg. If manually pipped and done early, who knows. It could take several days.

I don't cut mine til the first baby pops his/her noggin out. I just cut eggs yesterday. The first two babies naturally popped out @ noonish on 5/17. I cut the remaining three eggs noon 5/18. So far only two animals have completely left the eggs....but the remaining three have there heads out. 3 pastels 2 normals....hope I can keep those odds going.

They are not going to drown - The biggest risk to their health is, YOU!!!! . If they aren't even sticking their heads out yet, you probably have quite a while to go. When I cut my eggs at day 55, often they don't emerge until day 57-58. Leave them alone .

I got the drowning thing from John (BPMachine). He said about them coming out, breathing air and then going back in and breathing the fluid. Sounds logical to me. He told me he cut his at like 47 days so I went for it. I was dying to know what was in there. I know, I know. I'm gonna leave them alone next time. This is my first clutch. I'm trying to learn as much as I can this time around to do it optimally next time.

Ryan,
I can understand how anxious you are, especially since its your first clutch. I got news for you!!! You're gonna feel like this with every clutch, lol. The longest 60 days of your life are after eggs are laid. Welcome to the wonderful world of ball breeding. Nice clutch by the way. Ron
