if i have a heat mat that is 11 x 11 inches is that too big for a 24 x 12 inch tank? or shoudl i get a 6 x 11?

That sounds fine just make sure it doesn't get too hot and that you put it to one side not the middle. You can get a rheostat to regulate the temp.

i have a thermo stat it was the temp gradiant iw as worried about
how much cooler should it be on the cool end?

Okay that's fine, all emails are welcome. The cooler side should be around 10*F cooler than the warm side. It's best to have the warm side at around 90*F so 80*F for the cooler side would be efficient.
