Habitat Question...

razyrsharpe Jul 12, 2003 12:47 PM

do spotteds and muds share the same habitat...shallow, slow moving waterways and swamps? both are native here in South Carolina and i am wondering if i can allow one spotted and one mud to share a pond while i construct another. in other words, do they share the same spaces and would they be likely to meet in the wild?

Yes there are found in similar habitat and they probably do meet up in the wild. I would sure careful to provide a lot of room though if you are going to mix them even if only temporarily. Mud turtles are very agressive feeders and I'm sure wouldn't hesitate to bite a spotted during feeding.
