I agree with Casey. I would urge you to think long and hard before committing to a G. sulcata, as they are large, long term and require a lot of space. I would urge you to buy a captive bred animal, and a hatchling T. graeca-ibera, hermanni, A. horsefieldi or other commonly bred animals will go for around $100-125.00 on the West Coast. These are fun and personable, unlike some of the prettier but more shy species. You might want to join a Turtle & Tortoise Society/Club to meet persons of like mind and also breeders who can mentor you. Good luck, do your research and you will succeed. I think it is wise to evaluate the climate your prospective species comes from and try to duplicate it in a simple way. Living in California, I opted for Mediterranean species. Vic
