HELP! Baby in trouble. More..

PoohBear03031 May 19, 2005 08:00 PM

I am afraid my baby is dying. He has never been quite right. I have had him since April 18th, my fiance bought him as a birthday present for me. I was worried from the very beginning, but he was eating and pooping so I thought I just being paranoid. Now he is skin and bones. There is a black spot in his stomach, and he is not eating. There is poop in his cage, but it is green and liquid. I have seven other geckos, three that I have raised from babies. I don't know what is going on, and I really would appreciate any help I can get. I got him to drink water from my finger nail, but I had no luck getting him to eat. I am willing to do anything. Does it sounds as if it is an impaction, or some kind of parasite? Also ever since we got him, he has walked around with his eyes closed. I know he can see however, because he went after the crickets we fed him at first. I don't know what has happened. I have checked his heat, and it is fine. Thanks again for any help.

Well first of all it would really help to get a frech fecal done..it would have helped to do it right after you got her. Next sounds like she's really dehydrated...try some pedialyte. Here's a recipe:

1 quart of water
2-4 teaspoons of sugar (or 1-2 teaspoons of fructose)
1 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

I've had alot of animals that were almost dead come back from this recipe. Use a syringe to feed it to her. Usually babies are see through but on a skinny baby you can see almost all of their organs. This is probably the black pot you see but I would seriously get a vet appointment soon. Kinda sounds like a parasite. A fecal would be able to tell fo sure though.

Hate to be the one to suggest this, but, these are some symptoms of cryptosporidia. A move to a new environment stress the animal and lowers their immune system. Any parasites or viruses then have a perfect time to spread. Where did you get the gecko from? But definitly get a fecal before we worry about crypto. Sorry to suggest it, I've seen it in leopards before. Even caught it myself once, not a fun time.
