Thinking of getting a LG...

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting a leopard gecko as a pet. I'm an experienced herp keeper. I have Iguanas, Tortoises, Turtles, Frogs, and Snakes. But since this is my first attempt to keep a gecko, I need a couple of questions answered:

Is it a good idea to buy an adult gecko? It's just that I really don't like the small ones I see in Petco. It looks like a common house lizard/gecko. What is the usual adult size?

Why is it that online stores and classifieds NEVER say the length of Leopard Geckos they are selling? All I see is the weight.

Leopard Geckos are great pets, you won't be disapointed if you get one..lol. Buying an adult leo is a choice but it's alot more fun to watch a baby grow up, then they are used to you and will probably be tamer. Are you thinking of getting one just as a pet? If so, email me I have an idea. Buying a gecko from petsmart is a very bad idea, usually the ones they have are infested with parasites and only live a couple of week after you get it, they are housed inefficiently and often the cages are filthy. I have alot of caresheets and info on my site (link in sig) that you can look at. I'm not exactly sure why poeple never put teh length of the gecko when they are selling it, I always have but I never really thought about how alot of others don't. I guess they just never think about it and most people go by weight anyway in the herp world. Good luck, ask as many questions as you like.

THANK YOU peachy,

Thanks for all the info. I am planning to get one as a pet I'm experienced with snake, Iguanas and Monitors, and chelonians and for the most part, we include the length because it's important, however, we don't usually include the lbs.
