I have a male veiled...hes about a year and a half right now, and at age 6 months he turned, well, pissy. his name is Chiquito. I never could handle him after that, and only held him when cleaning his cage and bringing him outside, and even then i brought the handling to the minimum to minimize stress etc. He always hissed at me and opened his mouth and flared. I felt at a loss for having such a beautiful animal, but having him be so mean. I never quitre understood it, but i accepted it. Just this morning, i opened his cage to put his morning snacks into his cup, and the crickets on free roam, he sat on his favorite branch and stared at me. No opened mouth and no hissing. Not even stress colors. Just both eyes on me. I thought: maybe he is too scared, i better get my hand outta that cage. Then suddenly he ran....towards me. He got on the vine and came straight towards me. He climbed up my arm, and to my amazement, onto my shoulder. I held up a waxworm, and he ate it. I held out some lettuce, and he ate it. I held up other treats like fruit and waxies and even a hornworm, and he ate it. I walked outside with him on my shoulder, and sat out there an hour and a half letting him bathe in the sun. Then i took him inside, and hes on my shoulder right now. I think he is taking a nap. This is what they reward you with, sometimes, if you have the patience and love to care for them. Sometimes they never do show their love this way, especially all of a sudden, but be patient, you never know what they may do. Gotta love our chams!
