I do not know if anyone remembers, but I and a few friends in Tucson started this crossing stuff. We crossed most all of the montane kings. Started in the early seventies. I actually do not consider them different species, more like intergrades, better yet, crosses but not hybrids. As their breeding patterns and such, are the same. That is, Getulus kings have different copulation times then montane kings, milksnakes have different times then both, etc.

Well heres the sad story or happy story, I have nothing against hybrids or crosses.

Recently at the inducement of a couple of friends, I have started breeding kingsnakes again. I started producing kings in 1964 and produced them for over 3 decades. But its been awhile.

Ok heres what happened, I bred varible kings last year. I put them together this year when the female started to show ovum(palpated) She killed him dead. Thinking it was an accident, I put in another male(from one of the above friends) she killed him dead too, within minutes. What the heck, a Hannibel lecter female. So I said, to the witch(actually the other word) I putting you in with a cal king(black&white, real nice) So I did/am still. Well the dang things are breeding like normal. I was hoping he would eat her, or she would try to kill him and get her butt kicked.

So now I am wondering(i understand, you have to get eggs first) what the heck will the product of this look like? has anyone done a milksnake tharyi to a black and white desert king? could be interesting and the offspring could be real killers, hahahahahahahahahaha (getulus father and hannibel lecter mother) Thanks Frank Retes

I beleive Cal king X thayeris have been done. There is a website that Henry Dean has thats pretty intersting. He has hybrids like pyro-greeri-rutheni-alterna-blairs-sinaloan X pyro greeri-rutheni-alterna-holbrooki-alterna. I don't have the web address but maybe somebody here can post it. He also has some pyro-greeri-sonaloan-thayeri that you might want to check out to match your cal king x thayeri.

Cool stuff and welcome back to the hobby! You must have known several of the oldtimers back then (?). You are pretty a much a pioneer of herpetoculture. Would love to hear some of your stories.

Frank, glad to see you are back into colubrids. One of these days I'm going to pick up some Flavi X Gouldi crosses from you. My friend Victor Calabrese is releasing a new hybrid this year called the Imperial Pueblan (banana cal-king X pueblan). Should be awesome, these guys are even more variable than thayeri. So far we've got it down to five pattern traits we are going to try to line breed for. I've attached a pic of a "Psycho-delic" phase. He does have some killer thayeri, ruthveni crosses I'll try to get pics of. I'm not sure if he does have calking thayeri or not. Talk to you soon.
