Mercury Vapor Bulbs

burmaboy May 20, 2005 03:59 PM

I use mercury vapor bulbs to provide the UVA UVB for my turtles.I use the Power Sun brand, with a one year guarantee. But I cant seem to get more than a few months out of them.
Does anyone here use these bulbs, and if so, have you experienced the same problem?
Thanks in advance.

Actually I have one going strong into year 2...although I just use it for heat now. Try coating the ballast with vasaline, I have had many mercury vapor bulbs start working again once I added vasaline...they need very good contact to stay on, otherwise their auto shut-off kicks in.
