update on skink losing weight

Buffysmom May 20, 2005 08:18 PM

I took him to the vet last Friday & the vet wanted a fecal. Not so easy when he's not really eating. Well, finally today I got him a sample & it was crawling w/ nematodes, at least 2 different types. We're picking up pancor tonight from the vet & he says he should be better soon
Just a warning to others, I believe he got the nematodes from the snails I feed him. I get them out of my newt tank & have occassionally seen tiny wormy things crawling the glass in the newt tank, but never thought anything of it. Burned by treats! What a shame!

Try feezing the snails first, and then defrosting them before you feed. This should kill anything dodgy.

The freezing is a good idea, as well as buying the canned snails. I don't think that the tiny worms seen in the newt tank are the parasites, but you never know I guess.

Good luck with a full recovery
