more failed alterna hunting....

chrish May 20, 2005 10:09 PM

Just thought I would post the results from two nights of hunting this week

First night - Crockett Co. - warm, calm, humid night - it rained 5 inches here three days before. Cuts were still wet.
- AOR pictigaster
- AOR 2 atrox
- AOR molossus
- dor atrox and guttata on way back to Del Rio

Night two - Juno road - warmer (72° at 3:30am), calm (wind after 1am)
- one AOR and one DOR Texas Coralsnake
- one AOR atrox on 90 on way back

Saw two other hunters on Juno - they had the same luck as me (or less).

Just didn't want forum readers to get the idea that every trip produces an alterna. So far that's 5 nights for me (~40 hours) with no alterna. I don't really care, I go for the hunt, but just wanted to throw some data in the pool.

BG - So, you're going to wimp out on Presidio County? Why drive just to Crockett Co and Juno when you could head out west at the end of next week and find nothing there as well. At least I'd be assured of not finding an alterna if both you and I were in the same place; if you're not there, I'll likely persevere and keep stumbling around with false hopes. MG

Well, ya big dufuss (sp?), if you would pick some better dates, I might have been able to come out and waste a day or two or three. As it happens, my parents are here from NZ that week so I would be persona non grata (mostly by CG) if I ran off "a-huntin'".

Herr Dr. G and I are going to rape and pillage the river road the next weekend.

Hey, I don't need your help to find absolutely nothing, although, I must admit, you and I take finding nothing to a new level.

You'll just have to het your M from MP instead.

You two are funny funny boys!!! LMAO about you not catching anything!! Can bad luck be exponentially increased??

Hey Chris, Will you be out and about in early June too?? James and I were going to hook up with Harry in the bend region sometime around then. We'll be in Comstock area also.

Travis... Comstock baby... come hunt with us you big turd!!! We should see you on the 4th in Presidio too.

caudisona May 22, 2005 07:55 AM

Hugh,

You're already taking a huge risk by having me meet you in Comstock - James is going to be disappointed enough as it is not finding anything with me around...do you really not want to see anything because that's what you'll get if both Chris and I are there at the same time. Do you really want to drive James around with the two of us for 300 miles to find a single DOR Hypsiglena??

It's actually looking good for at least one night in Comstock...

also - B, MP won't be there, so I'm looking to you for the Monica.

HKM May 22, 2005 11:59 AM

We hardly see any snakes there either, except what we do see ain't Hypsiglena!!! LOL!!! We have been so lucky with alterna and triangulum the last few years that we're due for a good skunking!!! I want see another jaguarundi to be honest!!!

M, BP??? A Monica for you???? We'll see who gets the shower first!!!!!

If you guys have the jinx going on the ONLY thing to do is team up and drive together until you break it.

It might help to call your shot ahead of time. Why don't you two walk the ____ ____ ____ all night on June __. I bet you get a pair w/ the female ovulating

Best
Joe

Joe,

If we teamed up together and drove until the jinx was broken, we'd personally be responsible for another gas shortage in the US.

Also, we've tried calling our shot ahead of time. Even when we try to guess the first snake of the evening, we generally get that wrong OR we fail to even find a single snake!!!

thanks for the thought....

Joe,
Is would you know if the Alterna Page going to be updated? It's the foundation of this whole site and it's kinda sad to see it forgotten. Thanks.

I have some time these days,
I'll call Jeff right now and
see if he'll send me FTP info.

Then I'm going to recruit some helpers
with basic HTML knowledge to help with
the parts that need major updating.

The main reason the alterna page needs to be
current is because it was the foundation of
this whole site. That's where it all started,
on the alterna page.

Hey Chris,

If that was last WED It was me in the red mazda. I believe I came up on you while you were chatting with the herper on the S curve. Only hunted till about 1 or so. Saw 1 Atrox on 90, and that DOR Coral north of Comstock was run over by another hunter. I was right behind him. Good reason not to drink and herp!

Anyway last night on Juno find 1 pictagaster about 11:15. called it quits about 12:30

chrish May 21, 2005 10:57 AM

You know, I thought about stopping and talking to the guy in the red car several times when I passed you! I would have had I known it was you. Sorry to have missed you Rob. Now I know what to look for.

I actually picked up that dead coral and coiled it up on the cut for a photo. I was going to take it down, but then I thought it might get some late night adreniline flowing for a tired snaker...

Did you leave a rubber snake out there? Added one of those to my collection. Painted like a dark alterna phase?
