I gotta say, I really like your taste in kingsnakes. It just doesn't get any better! Your 4.5 thayeri are all you need. You can easily see by my count what my favorites are.

clutch May 21, 2005 09:00 AM

Wel thanks. But i still am looking for some more variants, like a melanistic, a very white leonis, and one like chris just pulled out of the LAVA.....lol OH yeah, i'm sure there will be more also after looking your numbers...lol

mexicanamak May 21, 2005 10:40 AM

...you almost can't have too many thayer's around. They are just so darn interestingly variable. If you have a nice group of some of the different variants, they are never boring and the interest is always there. The terrible thing about it is... each time you add a different variant, the more impressive they are as a group and the more you want to add to the collection. It can be a terribly dangerous addiction!

Seriously though...

Getting serious about breeding thayeri as we are, which is something I have wanted to do for a number of years now, and considering it is getting later in life for me, I needed to build my breeding colony now and get them raised up. I put this group of thayer's together over the past 2 years. Adding one or two each year, producing a few babies, waiting for them to mature and continuing on from there, would have taken way too long for me to get to where I want to be. While the thayeri grow and mature, I am practicing and refining my breeding skills with the greeri, alterna and the one thayeri pair which includes the melanistic female.

Thayeri and alterna are by far my favorites out of the whole mess and my breeding interests will remain with them I'm sure. My interest in the greeri and mex mex is becoming somewhat casual now that the thayeri are all coming together. I can't see myself expanding on those and I wouldn't be surprised if I eventually see all but a pair of each of them leaving here.

Jonel....THAT IS AN AWESOME THAYERI !!!!!!
Is that one of your holdbacks?

Looks sorta like some of Chris Baubel's Thayeri.

Great Snake and thanks for sharing the pic....
John Lassiter

Here is my 2004 holdback.....

jonellopez May 22, 2005 05:27 PM

Hi John

Thanks. I'm good friends with Chris B. and I made and have been maintaining his site(Artistic Investments). I was looking for a nice future back-up male and called him since I've seen and photograph a lot of his stuff over the years for his site and know that he produces some nice thayeri. I have seen the little green ones for a period of years now so I called him about it and I got this nice male from him last year. Believe it or not, the male's siblings were orange so he really stood out. I hope he stays that way to adulthood but I also love his busy alterna-like pattern so it was an easy choice. Thanks for the compliment.

Coincidentally...... I almost got some of those orange ones you were talking about from Chris Baubel.
I really like the reduced, broken patterns.
I think I may go ahead and get one or two from him this year if he has anymore like that.....
Thanks for sharing Jonel
John Lassiter

Cool. Looks similar to my female that I posted earlier. Just with fewer smaller saddles. Nice!

Jonel,

I know that thayeri are just that variable. But I don't think I've ever seen a thayeri that color green, or with that "spots and stripes" pattern. That is one kewl looking thayeri.

jonellopez May 23, 2005 11:11 PM

Hi vichris

Thanks. I really like him since he gives me some "variability" to my thayeri collection. Btw, here's one of the orange siblings that I was talking about. See the pattern resemblance? Take care.

Hey I know "someone" who has one that looks EXACTLY like that one. LOL They are both excellent representatives of the leonis morph. I still think that green one with the "spots and stripes" is incredible.

"Hey I know "someone" who has one that looks EXACTLY like that one. LOL"

vichris May 24, 2005 04:22 PM

Is that a [bleep]-eating grin or just a "I'm the bastard" grin I detect there, Mike. LOL
Hey e-mail me I set up a "study" tank last night. I have 4 girls that seem to be co-existencing quite well.

mexicanamak May 24, 2005 09:52 PM

lol!!! ...a little of both ...and a bit of madness there at the end to round it all off! lol!

e-mail comin' down the pipe there buddy!

jlassiter May 23, 2005 11:28 PM

Man Jonel....That was one of the exact ones I was contemplating purchasing....Nice Thayeri.
When will your green one be breeding? Next year perhaps?
John Lassiter

jonellopez May 24, 2005 12:16 AM

Hi John

You should have bro! Well, the male is an '04 so for him to breed in '06 would be really nice. But I would say, maybe in '07 for sure. Although, he's been a very good feeder even since before I bought him so we'll see if he can make it. He's currently feeding on rat pinks right now. Take care.

add

0.1 Snow Cornsnake

I can't believe I forgot all about her but she is the matriarch of my collection. She is my first ever snake and bought her in ’94 in a local pet shop as a yearling. I was still in HS back then. She has given me a good start and breeding foundation by giving me tons of babies in years past. I’m not breeding anymore and she’s the only cornsnake in my collection now. She's 12 years old now, living, and retired comfortably in my collection.
