i checked on my auric this morning and found that he had a prolapse, it looks infected and is swollen. it looks like it dired out where the dark area is. i have him in a sugar bath now. i am hoping it wont have to be amputated. any suggestions of what i can put on it?

here is a pic after 1 hour of a sugar bath. i think its going to have to be amputated i found a vet who has done many amputations but he isnt in until monday. i plan to soak him until then. ill change the water frequently.
i dont think i should try a re-insertion with what it looks like.

that is definently necrotic. very bad stuff, hope he does well after amputation. being a reptile has put him in a good position though, longer time to heal, but the tissue further up the hemipene shouldnt necrotize as fast as a mammals would. i would just keep doing what your doing, and its good you already knew about the sugar bath, really good. anyways, as you put it, glad hes got another one.

This just happened to my male chuckwalla about a month ago, late on a friday night, could not find any Vets who were in or would take him until Monday !

I also remembered the sugar water bath, I held him in the sink in coolish water for ONE hour, it also looked like your pic afterwards. I did not have high hopes.

But we went and bought KY jelly and I squirted it all over down there to keep the tissue moist. I took everything out of his tank, except a bath towel, put him to bed. But every few hours until 2am I re-squirted the KYjelly on him.

It looked a bit smaller when I went to bed. By 8 -9 the next morning I went in to turn lights on, and looked at him to find it had gone back in. I was estatic to say the least.

Its alwasy a great idea to keep KY Jelly in your lizard medicine cabinet, LOL It works wonders on keeping the tissue moist, until you could see a vet!

I wish your guy the very best!
