I did read the recent post that mentioned ovulations can last a week. How likely is this to occur? My female has had a bulge for 8 days now. It looks as if there's a huge rat in her. How long should I wait before I get concerned about her possibly being egg-bound?
It's a bit difficult to see how big the lump is in the pic.....but it's big. The pic is mainly to show the location of the lump. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

It could be that she's fooling you by going through the building process. My last female to ovulate was my het pied. It seemed as if she was ovulating forever a couple of weeks ago, but then she had a very obvious ovulation this week that lasted about 3 days. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for at least one pied baby. She tipped my scale at over 3000 grams and I just had an 1800 gram female lay 6 good eggs. Good luck with your girl.

That picture does not look like ovulation to me. Maybe the swelling has already gone down - but I think it's most likely you are just seeing her follicles in their "huge" stage, right before ovulation. Can you feel individual bumps in her body where the swelling is? If so she's not ovulated yet. If I'm right, she should blow up within the next week or so.

I didn't want to palpate the swollen area but when palpating the rest of her I didn't feel any follicles. The pic doesn't show how swollen she really is.......she is also swollen underneath. The lump is about 5 inches long. I'll keep an eye on her. Thanks.
