Premie pics and questions.....

Sojourner May 21, 2005 03:13 PM

Are all premature babies typically anerythristic in appearance? And if so, how long does it take for the red colors to develop?

What I am considering premature are three boas from my recent ivory anery X red group hypo litter that were born slightly smaller than the rest of the neonates, and still had a partially filled yolk sac attached to them. They were never unresponsive, rather were flicking their tongues and moving about their cage on the second day after parturition, and the last of the three is shedding right now.

I wanted to wait until after they had shed before posing these questions, because last year I was sure I had anerys when I actually did not, realizing my mistake upon their first shed. This time around I am not so sure, as these three look extremely anerythristic to me.

Here are some pictures of the first of the three to shed, along with some of her and one of the pastels from the litter for contrast......

Sorry for the long post! Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking!

He was not premature.........But, he almost looked anery. He isn't. I don't have any explaination for it. But, that one looks even more "anery" than mine did.
Awesome babies!!!

Here are some more pics. The first pics are of the second premie to shed, followed by a pic with the normal from the prior series, and the last pic is of the premie(or her tail rather) that finally shed while I was posting my last post. And then the battery in my camera died.

You can tell by the head structure of the one that these last two are slightly underdeveloped. Anyways.... here you go.....

What do you think?

Mine wasn't that extreme! I wonder if something weird is going on? Or, if they will develop color.

John, they sure look like aneries to me as well. But as you know, this is only my second attempt at breeding ever, so I am very grateful for all the input I can get. Thanks!

Statistically, I should have had a bit more anerys if the hypo male was somehow a het. My other thought, to be better determined after the long wait for any sort of color development, is of parthenogenesis, which I do not think I could ever prove.

If those are not Anery, then what are they? They sure do look Anery. Andy

Jesse, I have seen others post litters of premature babies and they had very light silver tails, and looked anerythristic in general. I may be wrong, but I believe color is one of the last things to develop. As a result the color you are seeing may simply be do to the fact they are premature, as your one thought had been. Wait and see.

It's hard to say personally, I don't have that much experience, but those do look anery.

Of the litter Autumn had in 03 there was one real premie that looked anery (due to lack of color developing, as well as some weird pattern?)

was born dead tho.

I also had two runts/twins born tiny compared to the others, but with full color, both died within 2 months.

This baby on the left was also a premie I believe, died shortly after birth, had color in the tail but not as much as the other siblings.
