Mom kicked out a egg please help

PetMania May 21, 2005 05:00 PM

On day 47 mom kicked out a single egg. Should I put it in the incubator or leave it in with mom. Please help. The egg looks ok to me. When do the eggs start to dimple? When can I cut it open?

I had one kicked out much earlier in incubation hatch fine so I wouldn't give up on that egg. If she isn't stressed out from too much checking but hasn't taken it back yet and you have an incubator that is probably best just in case the cage temp fluctuates too much.

You (and her) must be doing a good job with humidity for it not to be dimpled yet. Seems like they usually start somewhere around that age but varies depending on conditions.

Let us know how it turns out.

Careful though...

The shells on these guys seems so very thin right now.The first one has started to dimple at day 41.

I would leave her and the egg alone. Don't even look. If she does not recover the egg by morning, you can take it and put it in the incubator.

Keep us posted.

She did not take the egg back in. It is still sitting beside her. She has been loosing up on grip on the rest of the eggs. The tank temp is still 89-91 and the hummity is still 70-90%. The egg still looks firm and has not dimppled any. Today was day 48. When should they start to pip or should I cut them?
If anyone has used maturnal incubation please let me know what you did at the last week?

I've only tried it once but basically I did the same thing at the end that I did all along - try not to check them very often (like once a week). Actually early on I was checking way too often trying to make sure the temps where right and may have stressed her out but I'm not sure that is why mine kicked an egg out.

Depending on how much time yours spent at the higher end (91F) she may be loosening up pending a hatch any time now (might also explain the one egg loosing adhesion from the rest). Dimpling normally happens by the end but in an extremely high humidity situation might not. Some feel that there is a danger of babies drowning in eggs that don't dehydrate by hatching but given that you have let nature take it's course this long I would be tempted to just sit back and watch. I bet everything will be just fine on it's own. Here is a pic of mine near the end.
