Can white throats and savs intergrade?

butters11 May 21, 2005 05:59 PM

I was just wondering because my monitor is a savannah but has a lot of white throat traits.

Unless you consider a WT eating a bosc as intergrading, lol. This has been brought up many times before, lol.

Just out of curiosity butters11 what "traits" of a white throat do you think your sav has?

butters11 May 21, 2005 10:19 PM

He has the 2 black stripes running from his eye down to his shoulders just like the black and white throats. He has real distictive rusty color and white spots. I understand that savs have this too. He eats like a pig but he still is slender like bts and wts.

The black line from the eye spot down the shoulder shaped like a 'J' is typical of 'savanna' [Polydaedalus] monitors - some Bosc monitors have this, and others do not...are you sure it is a Bosc monitor (V. exanthematicus) and not a White-throat (V. albigularis). I would like to see a pic if you can post one.

Actually 1 full stripe and a partial in comparison. Some bosc it is barely visible, dont use the strip thing to tell them apart..
Heres a bosc..
This is an old pic, she was a wild one, back when I didnt understand good substrates, etc.

Heres a bosc with 2 and part of one stripe, not one...

This is a blackthroat, theres no mistaking albigs and bosc to see them in person at all..

Another BT..

A hybrid albig a few months old, BT/WT/WT cross..

That same albig at a year old..

The same albig recently, at 6ft 3.5 inches long and 30lbs...

A male hybrid albig, BT/WT cross..

2 male albigs, Shadow (cross) and a cape banded WT...

Blaize, a reddish colored WT a good friend has..

Note barely one stripe, hard to see with his coloring (WT).

Note this WT has a well defined single stripe...

Hatchling looking WT someone sent to a friend, one stripe...
