Grape May 21, 2005 06:56 PM

I let me sulcatas out today, but they accidentally got a hold of azalia(sp?) flowers. Im in the northeast and they are common plants with bright pink or white or redish pink flowers. Does anyone know if they are toxic? if so what should I do!?!? please let me know asap

Thanks,

Grape

From what I have read on different websites, azaleas are listed as poisonous. I'm sorry though, I don't know what you are supposed to do in this situation. Good luck

The way I figure is that if the animal was not forced to eat them (starving, no other food source) I'm sure it has a mechanism to prevent it from poisoning itself. As you know, there are many plants that tortoises/turtles consume that are known to be toxic to mammals.

If you're that frightened... take it to a vet.

I'd watch it for signs of odd behavior or not and act accordingly. I wouldn't worry about it. I've seen some of my guys munch on them.
