restraining tubes for snakes

Traci Jul 12, 2003 02:44 PM

Hello there,
I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but can anyone give me advice on using snake restraining tubes? I just bought a set and practiced with a snake I'd like to probe eventually (i will be using a helper when I actually probe). I could not keep the little bugger from going completely inside the tube (this is a small yearling corn snake) I tried to hold it's body and the tube in my left hand but it just wriggled right through. When I held it firmer I felt "cracking" like when someone cracks their knuckles. (sorry, best way I can describe it) So I let go thinking I was going to hurt it. I wanted to use the tubes for probing so my helper doesn't have to worry about getting bit, and I can concentrate on probing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Tubing is usually used to restrain venomous or very large snakes. The link below shows procedures for tubing venomous snakes...
