Green Snake Question

luxury_of_tears0 May 21, 2005 11:07 PM

Does anybody here know if a green snake (rough or smooth) will take canned insects from a "Exo-Terra Vivicator Remote Controlled Vibrating Feeding Dish"

I do not think anyone has tried but movement is what gets them interested so perhaps on forceps it may be possible but since they are stressed easily, in the long run it may be more work then its worth? Good luck and give it a shot. Heck, it may work. Perhaps one of those vibrator bowls for lizard insect feeders might do the trick?

Hi,

I have found that because snakes hear almost entirely from vibrations, rather than airborne sounds, even the smallest constant vibrations at ground level can be very stressful for the snake, especially a delicate species like an Opheodrys. I had tried bottled, vitamin-dusted crickets when I first started keeping the greens, with no succsess. Like the larger racers to which they are closely related, rough and smooth green snakes are strictly diurnal sight hunters, that need the room and excersise to chase after fast insects like spiders, moth larvae, and tree crickets.
That is an interesting idea, though. I once thought of using that type of vibrating feeding dish as well. Good luck.
