dothedrew2222 Jul 12, 2003 02:54 PM

Hey guys lately my little guy hasnt been catching his own guppies. so ill kill them and feed them to him. does this mean i will have to feed him by hand all the time or is he still just to little to catch the fast guppies. he can catch the crickets but right now i only have guppies in there for him and he is not catching them. just wondering if it is ok for him to be feed by hand till he is bigger. thanks alot if anyone has any advice why this might be thanks. im wondering if water is to cold for him. thanks guys Drew

Snappers dont often activley chase their prey. They're more of a sit and stalk predator overall. Im talking about fast moving fish here, because snappers will chase down slower moving prey.
Killing the fish is good because you can keep track of what the turtle is eating. If you just throw a bunch of guppies in there the turtle will catch a few, and as the school thins out, it will be harder for the turtle to catch them.

You know what I've noticed over the past year thats kind of interesting?
My smaller tank has 4 smaller alligator snappers ( 1-1/2" )
I used to put guppies in from one of my regular fish tanks. They would stay in there so long, the started having babies in the turtle tank. I finally took them out.
I can put in 3 dozen rosies ,same size as the guppies, and they're gone in a week.

The guppies must be faster or more wary or something.
Just thought it was kind of interesting.
