Hatching times in U. ebanaui and phantasticus...

boy May 22, 2005 06:00 AM

Howdy all,

Ok so I just hatched my first ebanaui of the year. Total bummer that only one hatched but thats better than nothing right?

So the phantasticus were laid on 1/10/05. The hatched on 5/9/05 and 5/10/05. 119 days and 120 days to hatch. both shed within two hours of hatching.

The ebanaui eggs were laid on 1/17/05 and hatched on 5/21/05. Only one hatched because I hacked open one in order to see if it was viable or not. My mistake too. It only took an extra two weeks for the damn thing to hatch. So one hatched. That took 124 days. And its already started to shed too.

Last year all of my ebanaui eggs took approximately 90 days to hatch. All were incubator at more consistent temps, approximately 68-72, where as these eggs had a range of 65-80. The 80 side of the spectrum didn't last long, almost a week throughout incubation. the average temp was around 68 degrees for the first two months and finished off around 75 degrees until hatching.

All look quite healthy and have full bodies. I'm very happy with the success so far, minus egg maggots.

I'm looking into a high temp refrigerator thermostatn to put in my mini frige so I can convert it into an incubator. I shouldn't have much trouble with that though.

Cheers

let me know how the mini fridge works out for you. we've got several laying around and i was pondering the same idea for awhile. if the temperature is adjustable to say 60 or 65 degrees, and then possibly get a hovabator in there it would be perfect...

I'm thinking just using the frigerator without using any kind of hovabator. It shouldn't be hard to find a new thermostat for it that will raise it up some. I might need to get a hold of a few lab supply companies to see if they have one with that precision. I know we have some at my lab that are caple of that temperature range. I should look into that if this doesn't work too.
