update on both my "babys"

herpluver Jul 12, 2003 03:02 PM

not really babys over a year old, they grow up so fast.

first is my guy with the liver problem. he is doing great eating good, likes the med (milk thistle) and gaining wieght again. so we are pleased

second is my little girl that was/is constipated. we went ahead and just took here to the vet. her gut was not very full, maybe i missed something , i thought she was eating alto more so the vet was not so worried. he gave her a B12 complex shot to help with appitite and a laxitive. she is chowing her greens and carrots right now. we are lucky to have this little girl. we almost lost her a year ago, and she did not eat crix for 5 months so we are lucky, she's a blessing.

thanks to all who gave advice and i will keep you updated
Samuel

I'm gald to hear that the one with the liver problem is improving.. its so hard on them to take even the smallest step forward!

Our is doing great too, we started using acidophiLIZ we found in PetSmart and it has really improved his activity, color and his poo.... it was always so strong and loose due to the disease and meds. Its much more formed now and not runny and his activity level and color is big time improved, if you want to check it out they have a website, it sold as a digestive tract conditioner and we have used it on other dragons too with good results. It contains several active good bacteria that is in their digestive system and Vitamins and minerals.

You might want to discuss this also with your Vet

i will talk to the vet about it.

its funny how a vet trip works out. my wife took in the little girl, while she was there a ladie brought in a savanah moniter that she had caught in a live rodent trap, now we are thinking about getting it from the vet. he will come with a check up and treatment of any conditions. they will run an add in the news paper first then he will be adoptable, still thinking aobut it. i had no idea anyone else around here even had herps. ok, i'm done babbling.

Hey Cheri I usedthe acidophilz on my dragons when I treated them for Coccidia. I just wanted to ask what your matience procedure was with it. I think the idea is great just wanted to know how others administer it.

With our one that has gout, we use it daily now, 3 drops. The gout and meds cause such loose strong stools as it is always cleaning him out. Within a day we could see the difference and you can tell he is happier too.

I am also using it daily. three drops, on any rescues that we take in for the first few weeks. They usually have many issues going on the stress of the changes does not help... with this, we see little stress reaction to the move and new routine.

Our healthy ones I am giving it to twice a week in place of their vitamins and mineral supplements as I talked to the company rep and this is what he stated the Vets testing it are using or recommending.

When one is oviously not feeling well, such as the two little girls I mentioned we have used it while they are not acting right, the one only had it one day, the other for three days til she was eating good again. Both the bloating went down within hours and gone by the next day.

They do love the taste of the stuff.... only problem is once it is opened it has to be refrigerated (active bacteria) and cold the dragons shake their heads when they take it due to the cold, so I have to pour a bit into a corell cup and use another dropper after it is room temp.

Seeing as how you mention it as drops I take it you drop it onto their snouts? When I was doing albon I was doing it into open mouth as dragons don't accept albon to willingly. I plan on to start using it. I was figuring twice a week as a maitnence. Now ones or sick ones maybe more often. Thanks for the info. One thing that set off a red light was it had a relatively high vitamin A dosage. I don't have the numbers on hand as my fridge died and I didn't have room in the little dorm room type fridge that I was forced to use. Oh well I lost a good amount of stuff that is the least of my concern.
