Greeri laid eggs!

Aaron May 22, 2005 11:48 AM

I found my older dark gray female greeri coiled around a clutch of 8 eggs this morning, 7 of which appear to be good. I am especially happy about this as we had the warmest winter I can remember here and wasn't to hopeful about the males fertility. The father of this clutch was my older really nice looking light greenish one.
I also got a clutch of 4 from my younger light greenish female yesterday only 1 of which appears to be good. She was bred with my younger medium gray male who has almost no red. It was her first year breeding so maybe she will do better next year. Hopefully then she will be big enough to breed with the light greenish male who is currently about twice her mass and can be very rough which is why I didn't put them together this year.
On another note I had said my very old wc male Ruthven's seemed uninterested in breeding. Well right after I said that I put him in with the female Ruthven's and right away he started courting her. I never actually saw them breed but did see courtship over the next couple weeks and she now appears to be gravid!

Man you are having some great luck Aaron.
It is funny how some things work......I hibernate my snakes in a chamber that holds 52 degrees to 57 degrees. I hibernated all my colubrids from Thanksgiving to Valentine's Day. I still have some females laying slugs, but they are some first time breeders.

It seems you hibernate your snakes with the your area temps and you are getting some fertile eggs. Great....Now I have to move to where there is an actual winter.....LOL
Great news Aaron. I wish you luck with them.
