Draykos new enclosure is almost done, take a look

yellowfox May 22, 2005 03:51 PM

Well let me know what you guys think. I got far enough on it today to show everyone what its going to look like. Silicones drying for the next day or two then i'll add a final coat to blend the pieces together then let everything dry for about 3-4 days (until the weekend) then it would be ready for him. I want sand in there but will probably opt for something else. Maybe carpet for now. Check out the album "draykos 55 gallon tank"

VERY nice. I'm so envious of your skills! I'm sure Drayko is going to loooooove his new tank. Excellent work!

thanks! I sure hope he likes it!

I have a background i made for a fish tank too and finally have all the cement cured (it takes a while to leech toxins out of water) and finally have a couple fish in it. Looks neat!

I should have a bunch of new pics tomorrow, be borrowing my friends nice camera.

would love to see your pics but I always lock up on webshots and have to reboot. I even have photos there and have trouble - very frustrating. Can you post some of your cage pics on the forum gallery? I will have to move Darwin in a few months and wondering about buying or building.

thanks,
lele

The webshots thing is a real pain in my butt since I have a zillion photos uploaded there. Anyway....your design - are you using the "carved" styrofoam like Veronica on Beautiful Dragons? What are you using to color it? Also, what size tank are you using? thanks!

I'm basically doing the same thing as veronica. I did a fish tank a couple months ago. I used styrofoam like she used but used quikrete mason mix (cement) to put over the styro. I added acrylic fortifier which helps seal it and harden better. If you just put normal cement on it more than likely flake off (since you don't want to put layers an inch thick, more like 1/8"

Quikrete makes the fortifier also. They also make cement dye which is where the color comes from. I got a tan color and black. Used the black on my last background for the fish and am using a mix of this tan and black to get a couple different colors.
