Quick water question:

shadowmonkey01 May 22, 2005 05:27 PM

Me and my wife are planning on moving into a new house here in the next few weeks, my question is it has a water softener on the main inline to the house, will this be an issue for my snakes? The water in the kitchen goes through a reverse osmosis system, if this will make the water any better, I just don't want a build up of any minerals or chemicals in the future.

I personally use revers-osmosis water for my snakes.
As far as softeners being bad for snakes? I don't think so. As long as they have a nutritious diet (maybe an occasional mineral supplement like Miner-All). All that the softener should be doing is removing the trace minerals. It may increase the sodium somewhat, and I dont' know what effect that might have.

I would have to say it should be fine (if you can drink it they can drink it) but if you are that worried I would just go buy some of water from Wal-Mart or somthing.

I have been using bottled water. I have had my corn now for about a year now(and is doing great). I read that the chlorine in tap water is not so good for snakes. I am not recommending bottled water. Just woundering if I should keep using it? Is tap really that bad? Is what I read true? LONG LIVE THE SNAKE. LOL

I have been using Tap water for over 16 years on my snakes, never had a problem yet... Just my 2 cents. Mike Leonard

The sodium was my main concern, because I know it's on there, but I just wanted to make sure that everything could be passed w/o building up somewhere, much like magnesium or some of the other minerals that tend to acummulate in snakes. And yes I realize that there aren't any RO units in the wild, just wanted to be safe. The last thing I need is to have my snakes dying off because of ignorance on my part.

My tap water is really bad so I either age it or buy jugs of bottled water for me and my snakes.
