there are highs and there are LOWS.....

I woke up on Sunday morning to find that Ivana had given birth on day 101 POS. Ivana was bred by my Squaretail male (Omar). Initial shock was followed by deep disappointment. 19 unfertilized and 6 premature babies. You can see the untilized egg yolks below. Although 5 of the babies showed signs of life they all were dead by afternoon. The baby in the lower right was about 6-7 in and born alive.

This was the second year in a row that I came up empty on this particular pairing. Last year, she did not become gravid. I don't think that I will attempt strike three this upcoming season. Out of all the litters, I was most confident in the progress of this one. Shows you how much I know. The good news is that Mom is fine.

a bunch of het squaretails. That morph has so much potential.

Good luck with the rest!

I read about Ivana this morning and it just broke my heart. Unfortunately things just don't always go as planned. I'm glad to hear that at least momma is okay.

us last season. It was our last litter due, and I could have sworn, it would be our healthiest litter yet. Our girl did sooooo well. Then a few days before her due date I checked on her. She dumped slugs and deformed babies...all of which died shortly after birth. I honestly was so devastated, I do not believe I even took pictures or recorded any of the information. We are sorry for your loss....but are very happy your girl is ok!!!! Ours had the year off! We would also like to note, it was her first season breeding.

im sorry to hear about a slug out though. It always brings a sad note of reality to the great joys of the brithing process! I wish you a great rest of the season and hopefully there will be more HIGHS and less LOWs in the future...

Sincerely,
ROse
