Crickets laying eggs in enclosure...

Chrysemys Jul 12, 2003 04:01 PM

Hey,
Latly I have had crickets laying their eggs in the humidity hides. I cant see them until they hatch so theres a million baby crikets everywhere. How do I stop thwem from breeding in there? I already have the entrance on top instead of on the side but that does not seem to solve the problem. Any ideas? Thanks,
Chris D.

That is one of the reasons I stopped feeding crickets. They are just a pain. Try to switch you leos to mealies and/or supers. You also might want to try only putting a few crix in and then watching your leo eat them, and then putting a few more in and watching it eat them, etc. That could be time consuming though.

Crickets are a pain, and do a lot of stupid stuff like that along with randomly dying and finding ways to escape out of the tiniest spaces. They have caused me more problems than any other feeder, so now all I feed my leo is meal worms, wax worms, and super worms. Try switching to a lower maintanence feeder, or take the humid hide out for the couple minutes it takes the leo to hunt down and eat the crickets. Hope this helps.

My suggestion would be, get the darned crickets out of the leopard gecko cage. Don't put in more than they will eat at one time, and remove any uneaten crickets promptly. This will not only prevent baby crickets in your humid hides, but will also prevent crickets from chewing on your leos.
