10 foot female suri ...

koky6869 May 23, 2005 11:56 AM

this girl has got to be probably my favorate snake . shes a wildcaught female . eats like a pig only on live or pre killed rabbits . no frozen will be taken by her . but i really dont mind at all .. shes at her darkest here as shes about to shed in these pics . but she is incredibly yellow and light on the top and a nice smooth pink on the sides . she is trully amazing to look at . her tail is just awsome and her thin saddles make her even prettier to look at !! but dont get too close to her hey she cant be perfect . nonetheless this animal just astonishes me when i see her. a few people didnt think i could keep this big girl alive as shes a recent import . some didnt think she would eat or settle down well enough to strive in captivity . thats what makes her so special to me . shes as hardy as a captive born animal now , just not as nice a temperament. but i seriously dont mind at all !! i hope you guys like ILL TRY N GET PICS OF HER WHEN SHES FRESHLY SHED FOR YOU GUYS

Where do you go to select these wild caught amimals? I think they are some of the best breeding stock around. Just was wondering how you get intouch with the importers/ plugged in to access to these type of new stock animals.

Thanks,
Andy

Was she just recently plucked from the wild at 10 feet, or caught a long time ago? If she was recently caught, how much does she weigh?

koky6869 May 23, 2005 06:20 PM

she was brought in about 5 months ago . weighed in at about 42 lbs at the time we weighed her 2 days after she got in . very sad for an animal her size . now shes a bit over 10 ft and weighed in just now at 54 lbs(after she defecates) . shes eating big rabbits once a week now for me with no problem .. only problem i have is that she wont take frozen thawed . so i have to run out and get a rabbit for her once a week. but shes well worth the trouble .

I really thought that they would be smaller in the wild. The fact that yours is 10 feet AND underweight speaks volumes.

well actually the biggest bcc's ive seen were wildcaught animals . i have seen a 14 foot female guyana , a 12 foot wild caught female guyana , a 12 foot wildcaught male surinam , but the most impressive would have to go to a female bcc brought in from brazil that i believe if im not mistaken ben siegel imported years ago that was 13 feet and musta weighed 80 to 90 lbs . most of the captives ive seen are topped out at 9 feet . i dunno man ! maybe theres something in the water over there .
