They are manufactured by Saf-t-lite corporation. Their website is www.saftlite.com/.

What you need is the Stubby II and the belt pack and charger. They actually sell this as the Snake Hunter's kit. If you want the kit, you should email or call them.

You can also do what I do. I have just the stubby II then I bought a car jumpstarter from Wal-Mart. Their website doesn't show the car jump starter, but it is basically a rechargeable 7amp hour 12 V battery in a plastic case with a cigarette lighter socket. They also come with a 110v plug in charger.

I carry mine in a small fanny pack that has a shoulder strap to help support the weight.

Chris, what size jumpstarter do you have, i went to my local Walmart and they have 2 sizes a 300amp and a 600amp.

chrish May 24, 2005 03:47 PM

I don't know actually. Mine has a 7amp hour battery. It lasts me about 8-10 hours per charge.
I guess the small one would be adequate, and certainly lighter.

Have you used the rechargeable spot lights such as the Brinkman Max spot lights?

swwit May 24, 2005 09:55 PM

The Brinkman Max is ok. The lights I use are made by Princeton Tec called the Shockwave II. It's a pistol grip dive light that is super bright. It takes 8 C-cell batteries and has a switch that allows you to use either 7.5 watts or 15 watts of power. They sell a smaller model that takes 4 C-cell batteries. These lights are about the best on the market.

How long do the batteries last in that spotlight???
Barry

swwit May 25, 2005 11:31 AM

If you use the 15 watts of power the burn time is appx. 5 hours. If you use the 7.5 watts of power it can last up to 10 hours. The nice thing about the light is that if the bulb happens to burn out on 15 watts it will automatically switch to 7.5 watts and still operate. And vice versa.

How long would the charge last if using a spotlight like Brinkman Magnum Max?

woodsrider May 26, 2005 09:01 AM

Thanks again for the info! I spoke with David at Saftlite via e-mail and I have a Stubby II coming from them directly. I also went and bought the car starter at Wal-Mart. This system should light up the cuts better than a stick flash light!!

click the link and scroll down. It's basically the same thing Chris just said with pictures and details. I would do like Chris said, it's the cheaper route..

I have a stubby and other spot lights contraptions. While some like the broader expanse of light form a stubby, I also like the more direct beam of a spot light. AND you can use ANY spot light with a " tote " 12 volt carry plus they are cheaper and are getting smaller. Check out Wally World on all of this. My 12 volt battery for the stubby was $20 at Wal-Mart and they sell them for those kids 5 mph vehicles. I had a Big Bend shoulder/fanny pack that I put the 12 volt into to carry. The charger for the stubby and battery again only cost me $20 at Wal-Mart. My 1,000,000 Brinkman spot was $15 and the carry tote 12 volt was $29. So if one had either of the 2 , I have carried BOTH on trips in case something happened to one and with these prices you could afford 2 of the spot lights. I get about the same duration of time on both the stubby and spot light which is between 6 to 8 hours. You could go bigger in candle power with the spot lights at about 1 to 2 hours less per charge.

I have never been able to get as long with a spotlight (and I also favor the smaller, lower power ones). I don't see how that is possible since the stubby II draws 9 watts and the spotlights draw 55 watts.

I used to have a source for 35watt H1 bulbs (as opposed to the 55W bulbs that come in the spotlights). It was plenty bright enough and lasted longer with the 12V battery. If I could find more of those bulbs, I might go back to a wide beam spotlight.

Has anyone seen the spot/floods that Q-beam used to make?
I haven't seen one in about twenty years, but they were awesome.
Is there an equivalent out there?
Thanks, Max

Thor X Cyclops rechargeable at about $49 bucks on e-bay. You can find those off brands of the 1 million and 2 million candle power rechargeable spots on there for about $10 plus shipping and the best deal is the trio of the 1,000,000 candle power yellow spots off brand for $25 plus shipping. Also i go to a store called BIG LOTS and find a lot of the 1,000,000 candle-watts rechargeable for $5 to $10. Let's see, the stubby II runs approximately $75 or more for everything > ? and you face the possibility of a light bulb/tube going out and I thought the replacement tube was like $20 ? , and or the switch has gone out on mine before.........you could buy 4 to 5 of these cheapies in which I have used for 6 years and have extra light bulbs on hand ( because you only take apart the face to get to the bulb ) which I paid $2.99 for each ( bulbs ) and use a multi-car charger adapter to keep 2 or 3 charging and if the whole thing stops working, HEY, toss it ! Don't miss understand me, I still like my stubby but............

MaxPeterson May 26, 2005 04:35 AM

How far away do you have to be to NOT fry the snake? : )
Seriously, I would think the 10 Million would be too bright!!!???
Thanks for the info.
I looked at ebay & there are some killer deals to be had.
There's a (4) pack of the yellow ones available at a disposable price.
I still haven't found one with the adjustable spot x flood like they used to have.

Any ideas on where to get one of the butane spots they used to make? I dont even know if they are made anymore, but I would definately like to get one.

woodsrider May 28, 2005 09:47 PM

Actually Max has a couple of these lights that run on propane.
I'll ask him where he came up with them.
Barry

MaxPeterson May 31, 2005 12:29 PM

It is called a Flintlight Spot.
They were made by BPT in Italy.
I got mine from the late Brendan McGraw.
I don't know where he got them, & I don't know if they are still being made.
Cheers,
Max
