BassiusMaximous May 16, 2003 11:17 PM

Hey Everyone, I was just wondering if anyone knows how to make a homemade snake hook or tong. Ive always been fascinated by snakes since i was a kid. Im 15 now and go fishing a lot and found a lot of snakes and I really want to start checking out the rattlers ive been finding. So let me know if you know how to make a homemade snake hook.

I don't know about you, but when I've got a rattler on the other end of a hook, I like it to be professionally made. I get mine at a show, but you can also get them online at tongs.com. Personal preference, I guess, but you might want to think about it. They make hooks for a living.

Deffinitly purchase a hook. I recall one time when i had made a hook out of a pice of wire coathanger, and a stick. Needless to say the rattlers weight bent the hook, and it fell right on my feet. Did not get bit, but could have been a bad situation. Tongs.com is your best bet.

Go to the hardware store and tinker around with the different things that they have, and ask the guy the best way to make a hook. You'll probably be able to think of something creative.

For example, you could take a broom handle and attach an unwound clothes hanger somehow... just make sure it's sturdy and won't hurt the snake.

Alternatively, you could look around for a good forked stick, or best of all, buy a snake hook (this would be the safest thing to do).

Careful with those rattlers! Don't do anything stupid or reckless... Good luck!

A hooh is a hook. It's not rocket science. Just make something strong and shaped for manipulation. A trim paint roller (4 or 5" with the roller removed. Firmly atached to a section of broom handle works great for me. Professional hooks are great though but hey Ssteve Irwin uses a stick, er I mean a bushy stick. Bushier. Flat out like a lizard drinkin'
