Wiring Flexwatt in a Rack.....?

piebaldpython May 23, 2005 06:42 PM

Hi All,

If I have a rack similar to the one on ballpython.ca, could I use 4" flexwatt for belly heat with the 11" on the back? I can't quite get to temp with just the 11". I would use a separate dimmer connected to a thermostat for the 4". It just seems like alot of soldering. Do I need to cut any reliefs into the wood or helpful hints would be great help.

Thx

Dave

It really depends on what your looking to do. The 11" on the back of your rack will do little to nothign for belly heat. Using 3 or 4" will pepoably be all that you would need to heta the tubs. You really dont need a dimmer if your using a thermostat unless it is a cheap themrostat like an alife.. Hoep this helps,

I'm sorry. I have a lidless system rack using sweater boxes (rubbermaid 6x16x32" stacked one on top of the other ten high. I have 11" heat tape on the back of the rack. The problem is... I can't get the temp to 95deg F on the hot side. I have 2 separate extension cords with 15 feet of heat tape (in 6 separate racks total) each connected to them. They all have a dimmer connected. Is it safe to have so many connections between the 10 pieces of heat tape. I have alot of power capacity with the helix so the 4" wouldn't be a problem. Any help would be great.

Thanx
Dave

Sure it would be fine, as long as you dont exceed the wattage the themrostat will handle. Just dont try and hook to different sizes into one control as they will heat and cool at different rates...
