worried about my chondro please help...

djzion May 23, 2005 07:48 PM

ok so my guy eats every monday at midnight. every monday like clock work. well he skipped last monday. i have a feeling hes gonna skip tonight. i believe hes gonna shed but he shows no signs. this would be his first shed with me so im not really familiar with his ritual. its hard to tell if he looks washed out. i believe he is. i can swear hes gonna shed. but he hasnt started yet and im worried hell starve before he does. i thought it should only take a couple days?! once he skipped his feeding i was sure he was gonna shed so i stopped handling him as i know this tends to make shedding harder for them. i have upped the humidity this past week but hes still not shedding. nothing else has changed so i dont think he sick in any way. the temp usually is at 75-80 with a humididty of 75-85 90 when i mist. the past week the temp has been the same but ive upped the humididty to 80-90. i thought more humidity was better and helped them peel faster/easier?

any advice/input?

A healthy baby chondro can go a few months with out feed and i've heard of adults fasting for up too 18 months. I wouldnt worry about it at all. I'm sure you snake is in shed, if not it just not in the mood for food.

Take a breather and relax, you're more than OK !

heres my big worry though... i had a chondro before this... i kept the humidity too high for too long and he got sores and died...he also didnt eat the whole time i had him. i just dont want this guy to die. so if he dosent start to shed in the next day or two should i chill on the humidity? i would hate for him to get sores from humidity cuz i was trying to help him shed.

I have a pair i keep humid all of the time. No sores or anything.

Did you by a captive born animal from a breeder? If not.. there's your problem.

These things are more hardy then some lead on. Again, i wouldnt worry about it.

Don't worry. Sores occur after much longer period of time than just a week or two... or even a month. Mine won't eat during shed, some do some dont. dont worry.

actually i kept my 1st chondro at 95% at all times like the breeder said and it never ate developed sore and died within a month. hence why im so paranoid about my new guy. also i keep his temps at about 75 but i got a new bulb today and it bumped it up to about 80-82. is this too hot or is it actually better? i thought i remembered someone saying low 80's was best with a drop to low to mid 70's at night.
