Bad News

purduecg May 23, 2005 07:51 PM

So, Archie had to go to the vet today. It turns out that he either has an aggressive bone infection, or an aggressive bone cancer. Neither of which being very good news. Hopefully it is an infection, in which case it hopefully will not get any WORSE than it already is once we treat it. I will get results of the lab work on Wednesday.

One of the more fascinating aspects of the vet visit was the "Archie X-Ray". Besides the fact I just always find pictures of internal things fascinating; whatever Archie has, has actually eaten away part of his pelvis and upper leg. (No it doesn't look that gross in real life - just looks swollen) The X-rays were astounding though, just a 3/4in gap between the 2 bones. Apparently that is not as uncommon, at least in reptiles, as one would think.

Anyway, I will keep everyone posted (and post a copy of the x-ray if I can get one).

Oh damn, sorry to hear that. He always looks so damn healthy, but then again we can never tell what's going on inside unless they start showing external signs, which usually means they're REALLY hurting. Hope he gets better and soon!

I am so sorry to hear about Archie. Hopefully it will be the lesser of the two potential problems. I wish you and Archie well. He looks so handsome and healthy in his pictures. Best to you.

Thanks Eve,

The vet was funny, she was trying to convince me to X-ray him (which I was already planning on having her do), when I stopped her, and asked how much it was. She told me then immediately went into how important it was, so I broke in again and said "lets do it"... she looked at me and said "oh, your one of THOSE pet owners, we are going to get along really well if you are willing to take the time to try to get your pet healthy"

It was so funny, and such an obvious relief to her that I was prepared to spend a little money to figure out what was wrong. She was really fabulous, I feel so blessed, now I have 2 herp vets I know and trust!

All thoughts and prayers are definitley appreciated.
